06.25.08 | Sun5's Home to Darfur featured on new Darfur Documentary Tents: The Patchwork Project is the first of three short films that will cast a glimmer of hope on the desperate situation in Darfur. Follow as the children of the Tents of Hope campaign open their hearts and minds to the people of Darfur. We see them paint one side of canvas panels that are then flown over to children living in Darfur refugee camps who paint the other side, creating a bridge between the two cultures.
The story also shows Katie-Jay Scott and Gabriel Stauring of "Stop Genocide Now" as they are caught in the crossfire of rebel and Chadian troops while waiting to return home from their humanitarian work.
It’s a hopeful and inspiring film that illustrates the vital and innate connections of humanity. A fantastic educational and entertaining tool for all your gatherings, fundraising efforts, tent-painting parties etc. and a perfect introduction to Tents of Hope, Tents: The Patchwork Project can help raise awareness and inspire more people to get involved in stopping genocide forever.
06.23.08 | Tp quote in the Boston Herald about Sun5's contribution to the Darfur CD
05.02.08 | Sun5 New Roots Album review Metronome Magazine
Doug's Top 5 for May 2008
Sun5
New Roots
Funky, soulful and full of robust energy, Sun5 strikes pay dirt with their latest album, New Roots.
While maintaining their jangly, trademark sound, singer Thomas Kivlan, guitarist Yohei Nakamura, bassist Tim Paul Weiner and drummer Jason Kenyon manage to pull off a little country, island, funk, fusion, pop, R&B, and rock balladry with convincing results. Bobby Gallegos, Andrew Hickman and Lennie Peterson also inject soulful horn lines on the band's R&B numbers lending a hip authenticity.
Sun5 has been performing in the Boston scene for several years now and after listening to New Roots, it's easy to see why the band continues to be so successful. Best tracks include the rockin', radio-friendly,"Louisiana", the funky, "My Mind's on You", the island groove of "Dance All Night", the country bounce of "E'r Love You", the vibrato drenched "Burned By Your Love", and the infectious Africana jaunt "South of the Sunset". If you've never had the chance to experience this band, I suggest you make a point to check out the gratifying warmth of Sun5. Good Stuff.
